lights, Camera, Action are not the rules of Digital Story Telling

A new project of  mine is to create a short movie that will tie into my activity plan. I wanted to incorporate a movie into social studies and geography. I started by creating a storyboard which is basically a outline/ rough draft of what i plan on having in my movie. This was my first storyboard and found it as a great way to organize my thoughts to putting together a movie. The movie that i will be creating is simple because I plan on having first graders make a movie and it might be a lot their first movies as well.
No matter how detailed or simplified of a movie you make one thing is for sure and that is that there are 7 elements of digital story telling. which are:
  • Point of view
  • Dramatic question
  • Emotional content
  • Gift of your voice
  • Power of the soundtrack
  • Economy
  • Pacing
The point of view of my movie is first person, informative, and narrated by myself. Also the dramatic question is wht will it be like if I love to Antarctica. In the movie I describe facts about Antarctica and relate its difference to where I live now. The emotional content is a little bit of humor but mostly informative.Since I am narrating it myself my voice is in the movie. The music is an instrumental and a few sound effects that will bring the picture to life. As of now I plan on using just still images and as far as pacing the pictures will be up for 1-2 seconds before changing.
When I am done with this movie I will be excited to see the finished work of an amateur movie maker.
